The relevance of modular construction and modular building is steadily gaining in importance. This is evident in the area of functional buildings such as daycare centers, schools, office and industrial buildings as well as in residential construction. A number of advantages, including increased construction time efficiency, high construction quality and financial security, are contributing to the increasing demand. The combination of modular and serial construction with advancing digitalization is another significant factor. Digital technologies not only increase efficiency, but also quality throughout the entire life cycle of a structure. Modular construction also stands for environmental protection, resource conservation and sustainability. It is based on ecological and climate-friendly materials as well as construction techniques, enables high energy efficiency in operation and promotes recycling and circular economy. Last but not least, modular construction is experiencing growing acceptance. It opens up the possibility of implementing projects according to individual user requirements while maintaining a high architectural quality – far removed from monotonous design.

On September 5 and 6, the modularBuilding 2023 congress will be held for the third time in Aachen as an important gathering of industry representatives and experts from the construction sector. The congress will discuss key topics such as modular construction methods, prefabrication, cost- and resource-efficient building and the potential that modular construction brings for builders, companies, the federal government and the states. The congress offers comprehensive knowledge transfer and numerous discussion opportunities for a lively exchange. In addition, impulses and suggestions will be offered to advance the future of building in a modular context. The patron of the modularesBauen 2023 congress fair is Ina Scharrenbach, Minister of Regional Identity, Local Government, Building and Digitalization of the State North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Center Building and Infrastructure Engineering (CBI) from Construction Cluster is a partner of modularesBauen 2023. Prof. Markus Kuhnhenne from the Department of Sustainability in Lightweight Metal Construction at RWTH Aachen University and a participant in the CBI speaks about “Future-oriented building”, in which modular construction plays an important role. Benjamin Camps (Managing Director CBI) will present “Next steps for the development of a guideline in steel room cell construction” and will also address new results of large-scale fire tests on room cells under conditions of the uniform temperature curve. As the third speaker from the campus ecosystem, Gregor Tücks (Managing Director DFA Demonstrationsfabrik Aachen GmbH) will talk about “Circular Economy – Opportunities for the Manufacturing Industry”.
