23. April 2025
The AVT.Foyer at Campus Melaten as a Setting for Visual Voyages of Discovery: From April 11 to September 30, 2025, Aachen-based artist Hubert Heinrich will present his exhibition „Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst“. A series of paintings inviting viewers to change their perspective.
Many of the works are based on freely accessible digital image templates, which Heinrich distorts and transforms through intensive engagement. With sharp edges, bold colors, and clear shapes, the images may initially appear to be digital art – yet each brushstroke is handmade. “When I paint, I follow nothing but my intuition,” the artist explains. “What ultimately emerges is also in the eye of the beholder.”
From Digital Concept to Analog Canvas
Heinrich’s Working Method Combines Digital Precision with Analog Craftsmanship. At the computer, he zooms deep into image details, creates line templates, projects them onto canvas using an overhead projector, and works each area with masking tape and paint – layer by layer. He always begins with black. A single piece can take up to a month to complete. Heinrich firmly rejects artificial intelligence. “In art, the worst thing you can do is force something,” he says, referring to the creative patience that defines his work.
A Place of Encounter for Art and Science
With regularly changing exhibitions, the AVT.Foyer at Forckenbeckstraße 51 offers an open space for artists from the region. The Faculty of Verfahrenstechnik (AVT) at RWTH Aachen thereby underscores its commitment to connecting science and culture – right in the innovative environment of Campus Melaten.
