24. July 2024

On July 17th, a special event took place on the Campus Balcony: As part of the “Open-Kino-Tour” by FilmSchauPlätze NRW, the film “Marie Curie: The Elements of Life” was screened. Directed by Marjane Satrapi, the film narrates the life story of scientist Marie Curie, portrayed by Rosamund Pike, with Sam Riley in another leading role.

Open-Air Cinema Experience at Dusk

Before Marie Curie’s life story was depicted in the feature film, the audience was treated to the short film “The Garden of Alalá” by Sophie Biesenbach-Jansen and David Jansen. Approximately 900 attendees gathered on deckchairs, benches, picnic blankets, and folding chairs to enjoy the films in the unique atmosphere of the “Campus Balcony.” Food and beverages were available from a wrap stand, an ice cream truck, and a drink vendor.

Exclusive Tours: Demonstrationsfabrik and Anlauffabrik

Around 80 participants took advantage of the opportunity to join free tours of the Demonstrationsfabrik and Anlauffabrik. These tours offered exclusive insights into the cutting-edge research conducted at Campus Melaten.

This year, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW’s Open-Air Cinema Tour visited six different locations in NRW, including Campus Melaten for the first time. The open-air cinema event on the “Campus Balcony” was a resounding success, transforming Campus Melaten from a hub of research and development into a cultural gathering point.
